‘Mayhem’ is an exciting new music film festival from Somerset Film in May 2024, taking place across multiple venues in Bridgwater including, Scott Cinema. The diverse programme of events includes; films with sumptuous scores and soundtracks, unique documentaries exploring diverse musical genre and workshops, popular singalong film, and guest speakers that provide an insight into the film screening. Here's what's coming up as part of the 'Mayhem' film festival at Scott Cinemas:
Top Hat (1935), U, 99m. Hitchcock's romantic story of obsession, manipulation and fear. A detective is forced to retire after his fear of heights causes the death of a fellow officer and the girl he was hired to follow. He sees a double of the girl, causing him to transform her image onto the dead girl's body. This leads into a cycle of madness and lies.

The Sound of Music (1965), U, 174m. British Air Force pilot Peter Carter (David Niven) is on his way home to England from a World War II bombing mission in a badly damaged aircraft. Before he bails out of the plane into the ocean, he contacts June (Kim Hunter), an Allied radio operator with whom he shares what he believes to be his final moments on Earth. But Peter survives, finds June and they fall in love. A problem arises when a divine messenger (Marius Goring) arrives to escort Peter to heaven to rectify his wrongful survival.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), 12A, 99m.Geneviève (Catherine Deneuve), a beautiful young Frenchwoman who works at a small-town boutique selling umbrellas, falls for dashing mechanic Guy (Nino Castelnuovo). Their brief romance is interrupted when Guy is drafted to serve in the Algerian War. Though pregnant by Guy, Geneviève marries an older businessman, Roland (Marc Michel), and begins to move on with her life. Throughout the musical film, all the characters' dialogue is conveyed through song.

Top Hat (1935) is rated U by the BBFC for mild sex references, very mild comic violence.
The Sound of Music (1965) is rated U by the BBFC...no material likely to offend or harm.
The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) is rated 12A by the BBFC for moderate sex references, violence, brief nudity, infrequent strong language.
