Bridgwater Northgate

Have you heard the news? Scott Cinemas will be operating a brand new cinema at the Northgate Yard development in Bridgwater. This will be a flagship cinema within the WTW-SCOTT Cinema Groups' estate.

Work has now started by contractor Wilmott Dixon on behalf of Sedgemoor District Council to build the cinema shell. We'll be taking over in May 2022 for our fit-out, and making sure the new cinema is the best that it can be. We've had some questions come flooding in, so you can have a look below to see if we can give you the answers to your questions, and we'll keep this page updated as the design progresses.

YOUR QUESTIONS ANSWERED

WILL YOU KEEP THE SAME PRICES?
We expect to keep our same great admission prices, subject to any annual rises between now and then. We refresh our admission prices at the beginning of each new financial year, which is April. We look at what our cost increases have been over the last year and how our outgoings stand. This means that sometimes we need to do a price rise, but we always keep this as small as we possibly can. By the time we open the Northgate cinema, we would expect to have had two annual price revisions - in April 2021 and April 2022. When the new cinema opens, we would expect to charge the same admission prices as we do in the existing cinema at the point it closes.
HOW MANY SCREENS WILL YOU HAVE?
We'll have a total of 7 screens. 5 of these will be conventional cinema auditoria, with stadium seating and all the latest technology. The 6th screen will be a luxury studio auditorium, and the 7th screen will be a hi-lux auditorium.
WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CONVENTIONAL AND LUXURY AUDITORIUM?
Our luxury studio auditorium will have a capacity for 32 people, but in comfortable sofa configuration. That might seem small, but you still get a large screen and a Dolby Atmos sound system... it's just that the space is used for bigger, better seats. Our hi-lux auditorium on the second floor will have an even smaller capacity, but will have reclining seats, and it's own VIP lounge and bar area. Both of these auditoria will be higher priced than admissions to conventional auditoria, but we guarantee that films won't be exclusive to these screens - we'll move films around. Both of these auditoria will also be available for hires, such as parties, conferences and screenings.
WHAT ABOUT WHEELCHAIR ACCESS?
The entire cinema complex will be fully accessible to wheelchairs and those with ambulatory difficulties. The level ground floor will provide access for screens 1-6, and the front wheelchair bays in those screens. Up on the first floor, which is accessable by lift, will be the rear mezzanine wheelchair access to screens 3 and 5 (the largest auditoria), access to the lounge and hi-lux screen 7. There will be accessable toilet facilities on both floors.
WILL THE SEATS BE AS COMFY AS THEY ARE NOW?
We expect so! Our existing cinemas seats are long discontinued, but our seating partner (Ferco) has some amazing designs that will be right at home. For standard seating, we'll have a 21" wide seat (thats the same width as our existing seats), with a rocking back. For premium seats, we'll have 23" wide seats (that's an inch wider than our current premiums), and these will have a real premium look, with loads of extra padding! Screen 6's seats will be dual or single sofas - these are so comfy we'd quite happily stay in them all day and as for the recliners in Screen 7 - we're really worried about our staff not getting much work done!
WHAT SOUND SYSTEMS WILL YOU HAVE
Two screens (1 and 3) will feature Dolby Atmos. Atmos is the latest sound technology from Dolby that is object-based rather than channel-based. This means that sound editors can place selected sounds at any point within the auditorium. Screen 3 has 51 individual speakers, including 42 surround speakers, 5 stage speakers and 4 subwoofers. All other screens will feature Dolby Surround 7.1, which is the standard for cinema audio.
AND BIG SCREENS AS WELL?
Indeed! All auditoria will have wall-to-wall screen sheets, with masking systems. The larest screen is almost 13 meters wide. Projection comes in the form of NEC digital Laser projectors - some at 2k resolution, and some at 4k, and all very bright.
WILL WE GET THE SAME GREAT CUSTOMER CARE?
Yes! Our entire team of staff will be transferring directly across to the new cinema. They can't wait to get stuck in...
WILL THERE BE JOB VACANCIES?
Yes! It will be a while yet before we look at recruitment, but we expect the new cinema to generate upto 20 new job positions.
WHEN DO YOU HOPE TO OPEN?
Work has now started on site and we'll be opening in October 2022.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE EXISTING CINEMA?
We genuinely don't know. We lease our existing cinema and we will hand it back to the landlord at the end of our tenancy. We've not been made aware of any of their plans for the future.
